About

Centroamericano was bred by the French research centre CIRAD with Central American partners, crossing a rust-resistant Sarchimor with the wild Rume Sudan. Like all F1 hybrids it is grown from cuttings or lab-made seedlings, because its own seed does not breed true.

It spread quickly after the leaf rust epidemic of 2012 because it yields far more than Caturra and Catuaí, resists rust and still cups well. It is now planted across Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
