About
Kent was picked out on an estate in the old state of Mysore (now Karnataka) and named after the planter who grew it. It was the first coffee chosen for its resistance to leaf rust, and by the 1930s it was grown across India, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
New strains of rust later overcame it, and India replaced most of it with S795, but old Kent trees still grow in Karnataka and Tanzania.
